Getting older one realizes certain realities that are beyond reach when younger. It's simply a matter of perspective that's not available without having years of observation.
When younger, I thought it was a good thing for young people to join groups, whereas older folks were stuck in their ways, so why bother with them? Now being older, I'm one of those intractables. And it's good. Instead of following the vicissitudes of pop-culture, religion, what have you, I can step back and survey the whole situation. While a younger person jumps in head-first, I relax, look around, and if all looks OK, OK then.
The point I want to make is this: This is why churches go after young people. Their minds are easily manipulated. They instinctively trust the adults around them. Also, when young, they are looking for patterns on how to live life. Myths are accepted to give guidance on living life. Of course when choosing one's religion, it's not myth, their religion is fact and all the others are myths.
Often this learning and indoctrination as a child carries over for the rest of their lives, living the custom and being part of the tribe one is born into. No matter which culture/tribe one looks at, this is how it goes.
I'm OK with myths. And with people living their lives believing myths. I think it's a shame to see so much time wasted on believing something not true, but believing in myths brings comfort.
What's scary though are certain myths that can eventually control and dominate those who don't believe in those myths. In decades to come, places like the UK, France, and Belgium will become Islamic. And what that could mean, is punishment for. not adhering to their strict religious laws. Forget that myths not only steal your time (life), they literally can take your life.
